203: 7 Words for Snow
There are X words for snow in the Eskimo language - where X is a large ,positive integer somewhere between 7 and 100 (depending on who tells you this ‘fact’).
I only say this because TOWTSH seems to have many words snd phrases to describe rain.
TOWTLH will ask him, “What’s the weather like?” and he might reply with one of the following stock phrases.
It looks like rain.
Its raining
Its throwing it down
Heavy rain.
It’s not actually raining but it’s in the air.
Rain coming from the West
It’s raining cats and dogs.
The precipitation level is high.
Start building the Ark.
Why are there so many words and phrases about rain?
Well, after this week, I know.
This week it has rained cats and dogs and cows and sheep. On my morning park walk, I have learned to swim. The park has been very, very wet.
Our garden has been flooded.
I have slept a lot waiting for the rain to stop. Usually I could have slept through 2 showings of ’Singing in the Rain’ before the rain stopped, but I would only get through 2 choruses of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ before it started again (the rain, not the bus).
That thought set me thinking about songs about rain.
