43: Its worse than I thought.

I know I’ve talked already about winter ... but its worse than I thought.

I went out the other day and was unable to walk properly. Standing upright was quite difficult.

At first,  I thought that I’d contracted some weird, disabling disease but it turned out that it was due to something called ‘ice’ forming on all walking surfaces, reducing the friction that  enables feet and paws to grip the surface.

TOWTSH suggested that I should be alright since I have four legs (and four feet).  Doesn’t he realise that having four feet slipping all over the place is worse than having just two. (If my mathematics serves me well, its twice as bad!)

What was worse was that this ice (a particularly virulent form known as ‘black ice’) was invisible - at least to my eyes - and odourless. Footing often looked secure until you moved your feet onto it.  The feet then moved in random directions and the body dropped rapidly to the floor.  It can be painful but it is more embarrassing.

If it happens too often, I will lose my reputation as a sure-footed, all-action heroine.
