50: Call That a Day Out?

My beans were very excited at then end of last week.  TOWTLH had an appointment for a COVID vaccination - in York.  The distance was not a problem as she was regarding  it as a day out - quite exciting in these lockdown days.

They told me that I was going with them - and I got a little excited.  I don’t particularly like travelling in the car but I just hunker down and think of biscuits until the journey is over. At least, I assumed, I would get a walk at the end of the journey - and a walk in different surroundings with different smells.

The journey took about 40 minutes and when they let me out, I was gazing upon.... a large car park.  Surely this wasn’t the destination.

But, it was!

The beans went off leaving me in the boot (its a hatchback so I have plenty of room, and the parcel shelf is out it so I have daylight). TOWTSH did give me a short walk first but I have to admit it was not a particularly attractive car park. (Do such things exist?)

Unbeknown to me, the plan was to ‘blag’ a vaccination for TOWTSH who did not have an official appointment even though he is old enough.  They were pleased that the plan worked.  They were both jabbed.  The whole process took about 20-25 minutes.

When they returned to the car, I thought that either I would get a decent walk or we would have a short drive to somewhere more attractive where I would get a decent walk.

But, no!  We went home so that the beans could brag about their jabs to the rest of the street at the 11am coffee morning.  They bragged even more about the fact that they had stickers.  Others in the street who had been jabbed had not been presented with a sticker.

But, stickers or not, I found it a most disappointing experience. I’m glad they have been vaccinated and are less likely to be COVID-killed but I am sure it could have been better organised to be a win-win situation for them and me.

I hope they plan better for the follow-up jab.

I hope they read this blog!
