101: Chaos Reigns

Our street has been dug up this week - by the local water company.  The aim is to replace ageing lead pipes with sparkly, new, plastic ones.  This, I’m told, is a good thing.

The street has become an obstacle course.  Occasionally there are holes, surrounded by plastic barriers, on both sides of the street and TOWTSH has to navigate these in wind and rain, holding my lead and carrying a steaming poo bag in his other hand.

Because there are all sorts of interesting smells, I am drawn to these holes.  I drag TOWTSH towards them and he drags me away.

I usually win.  (He’s a softy and doesn’t want to hurt my neck by pulling too hard.) Of course, I eventually come away when I learn that the smells are not accompanied by edible substances but, by then, my paws and his shoes are covered in squelchy mud. (Yes, its rained this week - quite a lot.)

For some reason, TOWTLH does not appreciate the magnificent patterns we create on the hall carpet or the kitchen floor.  (No artistic flair!)

It’s been interesting - watching the workmen scratching their hard hats, picking up the barriers that have blown away in the wind (yes, we’ve had gales this week, as well), eating lunch, and occasionally doing a little digging  … but they have created a scene that looks like something from one of those TV shows described as ‘set in a dystopian future’.

I hope they take their time getting us back to ‘normal’. It gives me something to watch.
