171: Heated Argument
TOWTSH is the one of my beans who takes me for my walks. We generally do a big (ie long) walk in the park each morning and a big one at bout 9pm. (This one is known as the ‘2 bus stop walk’ as I insist on walking via the two nearest bus stops to see what crumbs have been dropped by greedy and untidy bus passenger.
Between these we do a variety of (mainly short) walks. However, TOWTSH is one of those compulsive step counters and insists on dragging me round to get his step count to the mythical 10,000 each day. (He’s currently averaging about 12,000 per day.)
The problem is that, when the weather is good, he takes me for a third longer walk (often to a different part of the park to our normal route) as he mentally adjusts his target step count upwards.
I, however, whenever the weather is good (and especially hot) adjust my target step count downwards - closer to zero.
Why would anyone want to achieve a certain (arbitrary) number of steps in a day. How does it help mankind (or dogkind)?
Could someone have a word with him and explain that heat is bad for dogs. They should be left to sleep (or simply rest) whenever the temperature goes above twenty degrees (Centigrade, of course). Walking is like torture. Stamp it out, NOW!
