24: Where has he been?

TOWTSH has been missing for a couple of days.  I have been beside myself with worry. (Can you be beside yourself?). Where is he?  Has he gone off with another dog?  Has he been involved in an accident?  The only thing that kept me sane was the fact that TOWTLH didn’t seem at all worried. Either such absences were a regular occurrence or she was just glad he wasn’t there.

My coping strategy was simply to sleep a lot... when I’m asleep, I don’t worry.  Of course, TOWTLH tried to take me out regularly for a walk but I was having none of that. I wanted to be at home in case he returned. I went out to ablute but never let her take me out of sight of the front door.

It was quite a boring experience I have to admit.  She gave me no reading material but the TV was on intermittently .... but TV programmes seem to be aimed at lower-intelligence dogs and humans. I prefer the radio .... but not that ghastly Radio 2.

After an eternity (or 2 days) TOWTSH returned as if nothing had happened. I could have  turned on all my charms, wiggling and wriggling for all I’m worth (which is quite a bit) so that he would know I was pleased to see him.

.Instead, I played it cool - took, a look and then retreated to my bed.  I could see he was disappointed but he has to learn there are consequences for abandoning me.

I’ve eased up now (after a night’s sleep) and am showing my relief and pleasure at having him back.

It turned out that he’d been to somewhere called ‘Matlock Bath’ for a bonding experience with his son.  Hhhhmmpphh! He could have stayed at home and continued bonding with me.

I think the pair of them must be voyeurs ‘cos Matlock Bath, according to TOWTLH, is in somewhere called the Peek district.

Unless, of course ,its the Peke district and he plans to replace me with a younger, sexier model!

At least I’ve been back to the park this morning.  Things seem to  be returning to normal.

I’m not sure I’ll ever understand these human beans.
