257: He’s and Trees
The ‘He’ in the title is the pup. He is back from his trip to Tie-land. It must be a very long way away because it has taken him seven weeks to do all his traveling…. perhaps he’s done it all by bicycle.
It surprised me that I was actually quite pleased to see him back. I was forced to examine my own emotions until I realised that after lunch most days he, as well as the older beans, will have a banana. Well, I say he will have a banana. On a good day, I can persuade him (with my pleading looks) to share it with me to the point where I can snaffle 25% of it.
So, welcome back, Phil …. I’m pleased you’re home.
In other news, my beans are currently looking to have some work done on the large trees at the end of the garden. This means that several burly men have been in the garden, looking at the trees, scratching their chins and giving the odd tut. (They must all be descended from an ancient Egyptian leader who was evidently the ‘King Tut’.)
No doubt this will later involve lots of men and machines disturbing my peace and costing my beans a lot of money.
I hope they can still afford my biscuits and other treats. (If not, the neighbours - who mostly seem very kind - will have to ‘step up to the plate’ and deliver. ((‘Step up to the plate’ is a term from baseball - that archetypical English sport ….. the use of this phrase is another example of the decline of the English language and the descent of the UK into sub-Americana.))
Anyway, I must sign off now. Lunch (and bananas) await.
