47: TV Choices

Many of you will know that our street has had an 11o’clock coffee break over the pandemic period, whereby residents come out daily at 11am with a cup of coffee, stand on the end of their drives and converse.  To be fair, they have maintained all social distance guidelines and are very safe, since they are both distanced and outdoors.

One of the aims is to support those residents who live on their own but it serves to help the mental health and well-being of all involved.

The advantage for me is that I usually get to participate (again from the end of my drive) and to hear the latest gossip.  This often involves what they are currently watching on TV - and between them, they seem to have all delivery platforms - Freeview, Sky, Virgin, Amazon Prime, Netflix - and even Apple TV+.

Bridgeton seems to be a current favourite (with the female beans), and seems to be popular with those who watched The Crown.  I can’t comment on it; my family don’t watch it - they don’t have Netflix; I think they are too poor.

The Pembrokeshire Murders was a popular mini-series though I am surprised that humans like to watch programmes about other humans being killed.

TOWTSH watches a lot of sport - especially football and its strange American cousin.

All of the choices seem to offer a form of escapism - into other worlds, other cultures, other places, other situations.

This got me thinking (dangerous, I know) - about what programmes I will create for my fellow dogs when I am leader of the country after the revolution. To make it easier for myself (well, I am only a dog, I find it easier to base my ideas on current human programmes.  So far, I have:

Bark-Off

Fetch of the Day

Come Whine with Me

The Masked Springer

Who wants to be a Million-Airedale

Claw & Border Collie

Tipping Pointer

Bones Under the Hammer

These will are all-action programmes, not sentimental tosh aimed at middle-aged, middle-class, middle-of-the road female human beans.

Let’s inject some doggie quality into the TV schedules!
