58: Name Calling

We have a new human pup on the street.  Philippa, from across the road, has just given birth to a baby girl - her second.  This one from the grapevine appears to be called Imogen Olivia.

Two names seems a little greedy to me.  They (her parents) are likely to call her by one name only, so why the second name. Isn’t it redundant?

It did however start me thinking about what my second name might be if I had one. (Of course if I’m choosing, I might decide to change Gina as well - I’m not wedded to the name.)

I’m trying to think of names that reflect my striking good looks and sunny disposition.

I don’t want to go for anything too modern - I’m a traditionalist - and certainly not a ‘celebrity’ name.

I don’t want a name that already belongs to anyone in the street, because that would be too confusing - especially if i was called in and, say, Sarah or Sue (or whoever I shared a name with) turned up on the doorstep wanting my food.

The other criterion is that my name should reflect the fact that I am a pedigree dog from a ‘niche’ breed - there are not many of us field spaniels around.

Should I bring back a dying name - Ethel, Mavis, Gertrude - or stick in the mainstream?

After quite some thought, I have settled on a shortlist of two names - Virginia and Victoria.  Both sound ‘grand’ and one reeks of royalty.

Now, how do I choose between them?

Perhaps that’s the dilemma Philippa and Dave had when they came up with Imogen Olivia!
