11: A visit to the vet

Yesterday I had to go to the vets.

I have a discharge from my eye and a sore, balding patch in my ear. (We spaniels are martyrs to our ears)

(We got an appointment with the vet within 24 hours of contacting them, though we did have to send pictures of my ‘problem areas’ so they could have an initial look. When TOWTSH was taking the photos - and I was being posed / held in place byTOWTLH - I did my best to look ill and in pain, but TOWTSH told me to stop being so silly. That was unusual since he normally lets me do what I want, when I want and how I want.

Vets must be good and clever as when my human beans try to get an appointment with their doctor, they usually have to wait 3 weeks for a telephone consultation and TOWTSH calls them ‘numpties’.)

Anyway, I digress.

You may recall, if you are one of my local blog readers that it was raining yesterday. For the benefit of those who are not local but are reading this in some far-flung corner of the globe perhaps in some different language and even some different script, it was raining yesterday in Leeds. (I promise not to digress about British weather - or at least not today, or at least not for long.  The best weather-related saying I’ve heard is that if you live in the UK and don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes.). Anyway, this meant we had to go to the vets by car even though it is in walking distance.  There was an elaborate game to play to inform the vet that we were outside so they could come and let us in - just me and TOWTSH were allowed in.  The vet, not surprisingly, looked in my eye and in my ear (aren’t diagnostic procedures advanced?) and then pronounced with all the authority of several years training that ... I had a poorly ear and a poorly eye.

On questioning, we found out that I had conjunctivitis and a bacterial ear infection so it looks as though my human beans are not looking after me properly. I hope they realise they are only on probation.

I have had some magic medicine in my ear and my beans must put drops in my eye three tines each day (so if I work this right, there should be a treat with each one).

I also had an injection for some unknown reason - well unknown to me anyway (but I guess TOWTSH knows).

I should be back to full fitness in a few weeks (though I have to go back next week for a checkup) - my sunny, friendly disposition will be restored.

Not bad treatment for just over £100. It’s a good job I’m worth it!
