148: Back to Normal?

Things seem to be changing after that dreadful period known as Christmas.  The furniture has been put back where it should be; bedding has been washed or stripped as appropriate’ turkey is off the menu; few strangers arrive at the door (except for that nice Mr Amazon).  All is getting back to normal and I, for one, am glad.

I like my routines and rhythm.  I like things to be predictable.  I like to know when the household is likely to go to bed and when they are likely to rise. I like my meals to be ‘normal’ snd treats to be often.  I like my walks to be in the old places where I know all the old smells snd know where crumbs may have dropped.

From what I understand, it will all happen again in about 11 months time So I need to make the most of normality.  Why do humans like such disruption.  In the run up to Christmas I seem to hear lots of complaints about the extra workload and the extra expense - so why do they bother

Just so thy can get some new socks and bath foam?  Surely not.

Just so they can see people they don’t want to see for the rest of the year?     Again, surely not.

Just so they can put coloured lights in the garden and tinsel in the house?  Once more, surely not.

Just os they can drink more alcohol than usual without feeling guilty?  Perhaps so.

I’ll never understand human beans!
