215: Higher or Lower?

I’ve been thinking of that old (now dead) guy who used to be all over the TV screens being a compère, and quiz host … but mainly being himself….. he was called Bruce Foresight or something like that.   On one of his many shows he would ask a member of the audience who had become a participant/contestant whether the next card he turned over from his giant deck of playing cards would be “higher or lower” than the previous one.

The reason I was thinking of this simple, strange game was because I was trying to judge the ‘trauma factor’ of the last several weeks in comparison with one another. Is going to the vet a higher or lower trauma factor then having my owner go away (temporarily)?   These things, I know, are subjective but it does offer a comparative judgement and helps me prioritise my fears.

None of this does any good of course ….. or does it.  Perhaps it’s a kind of self-help-therapy just thinking and judging each traumatic event and awarding trauma points.

“And what do points mean?”,  Bruce Foresight would ask

The audience, presumably practised and incentivised in some way would respond immidiately and in unison. “Prizes!.

Baffling, I know!

But again it reminded me not to expect too much of human beans.  They are very much a flawed species.

I used to think humans were secure in their (misguided) belief that they are superior in intellect to all other species.

Yet which species is currently developing ‘artificial intelligence’ to replace their own?

Not dogs!
