31: Be Magnanimous

Bad news this week. As America gets a new President, our street gets a new resident … and I haven’t even voted.

Why is this ‘bad’ news?

Well, this new resident is called Mavis and is …. a dog. A female dog, at that.

But I’m the queen of Earlswood Avenue.  This new interloper might grow up and try to usurp my position - we might see scandals, intrigue and politics rear their ugly heads.

I put my concerns to TOWTSH but he just told me to stop being stupid.  He said the more dog lovers - and dogs - live in the street, the more secure my position is.

He said that I should just carry on being my usual charming, friendly, engaging self and all will be well.

My first thoughts were ‘How does he know?”  What if this Mavis is evil or even worse - naturally outgoing and friendly.

However, last night when i was sleeping (without any educational audio, of course) my subconscious went to work and rationalised the thoughts going through my brain.

So, this morning i want to say “Mavis, welcome to Earlswood Avenue. I’m sure you’ll be happy here.  You have a good family to look after you.  You have close proximity to probably the best park in Europe. You should have a great life.“

See, TOWTSH - I’ve been magnanimous.  Surely that deserves a biscuit.

P.S.  Mavis - know your place!
