36: Tears Before Bedtime

My mum had a phrase she used quite often to suggest when all was going swimmingly, something would go wrong.  She said, “There will be tears before bedtime”.

Of course, mum was always right.

I was reminded of this by BoJo on TV the other day when he announced that there would be  tears after lockdown.

Evidently, according to TOWTSH, Leeds - and therefore our house - is, as from morning, in something called Tear Three. I’m not sure what this means but from the rants of TOWTSH it certainly means there will be no pubs open.

Since I’ve never been to a pub, I am not sure of the scale of this disaster.

I doubt whether my life will change significantly so I’m not getting too excited.

So, whet else do tears affect.

Well, I have regular tear tests because I have a condition called ‘dry eye’. I have to have ointment and drops put in my eye 4 times a day - and it is very unpleasant.

I know there are tears on wedding cakes - but from what I understand there are lots of tears at weddings.

The reference I don’t understand at all is an instruction I saw recently on a package that was delivered to the house.  It instructed the recipient to ‘Tear along the dotted line’.  That sounds very difficult especially since when one is crying it would be hard to see the line!

Anyway it is 10 o’clock in the evening now - my bedtime…. and here comes TOWTLH with my eye drops.  See, mum was right.

There will be tears before bedtime.
