55: Not Another One

Since this interminable lockdown started, the street has had an influx of dogs - well, 2 anyway.  You know my feeling about ‘competitor’ dogs … alright as long as they keep out of my way and leave any crumbs on the floor where I can find them.  Of course, since new dogs tend to be puppies, they have that ’AAaaahhh” factor and tend to grab the attention.

Now, however, a new threat to Earlswood stability has arrived.  I am sure I announced the birth of baby Ralph Bicker earlier in this blog.  Well, the other day, his mother - Sarah - circulated a photo of him to the rest of the street.

The outpouring of sentimental tosh was amazing.   Beautiful, talented dogs were forgotten as the ‘cute’, ‘handsome’, human pup was lauded and cooed over.   Sure he looked a fine specimen of human pupdom … but he is only a human bean after all.  He can’t bark, he doesn’t have a tail (well, at least I’ver never seen one), he only has 2 legs … what’s all the fuss about.

Only that nice Susie Deuchars still makes a fuss of me … and her judgement is suspect since she seems to find hedgehogs attractive … with their brillo pad hairstyle and flea-ridden bodies.

When I explained my feelings to TOWTSH, he lectured me about the perils of jealousy … he said it would eat away at my good nature and turn me into a monster.

I had to explain to him that I am envious not jealous - and that envy is not a damaging emotion.  I think jealousy means you want to take something away from others; envy just means you would like it for yourself also.

So, good luck to baby Ralph - he is indeed a cute baby.

Well, my mum said I was the cutest month old pup in the world.

Let’s see what baby Ralph looks like when he’s all grown up.
